Characteristics From Design A, Type A
  • : bbcv2bs-aa
  • : 115mm x 55mm. The size is smaller than regular size of 156mm x 69mm
  • : Design mainly in dark cyan and gray over a light blue background. On the right, bust of Panteón Nacional with the leyend "BARRE" below and two leyends in arc on it's side "BOLÍVAR" and "LIBERTADOR". On the left,, the denomination in words "DOS BOLÍVARES" inside a guilloche with a serial number above. In each corner,, the value in words "DOS". On the top left, the issuer name "BANCO CENTRAL DE VENEZUELA". On the bottom, the payment clause "PAGADEROS AL PORTADOR EN LAS OFICINAS DEL BANCO".
  • : Design in gray and white over a dark cyan background. In the center, the denomination in words "DOS BOLÍVARES". On the right, Coat of Arms. On the left, the value "2". On the bottom, the issuer name "BANCO CENTRAL DE VENEZUELA". In each corner, the value "2".
  • : This banknote, with the 1 Bolívar banknotes was also known with the popular name of "Tinoticos", in honor of the president of the Central Bank of Venezuela by then. Another popular name was "Monopolio", derived by similar size and paper quality of the popular game "Monopoly".
  • : Theses banknotes were issued in emergency to solve the shortage of coins during 1988-1989, as a consequence of illegal funding to obtain nickel due to the high price of this metal in comparison to it's face value. The banknotes that are part of these issues are 1 Bolívar, 2 Bolívares and 5 Bolívares (Diseño B, type B).
  • : Based on information from Venezuelan Metallic Coins (Asdrúbal Grillet), How to collect banknotes-Venezuelan Catalog 1811-2003 (Germán Hernandez) and Centralized banknote issues of Venezuela (Sergio Sucre), the amount of pieces were 600 millions. However, the known series and amount of pieces are far from that the official amount. Maybe there were other serie prefix that never have circulated and have been destroyed.. The serial prefixes that should exist are from AA7 through CS7. This website will only lists those that they existences are known. Some series are more difficult to find (see the known serial interval).
